Today’s bonus post is going to be about the December Boxycharm for 2017! I cancelled my subscription to Boxycharm after July because I didn’t really like the products that were in the past months’ boxes. So, once I saw that this box had Tarte, Makeup Geek, and a brush, I figured I should probably start up my subscription again. So, if you’d like to see what I got in my Boxycharm for December and my thoughts on it, just keep reading!
This first product is basically what sold me on the box. This is the Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara ($23). I love this mascara! My mom bought this for herself a couple months ago and I tried it too. It’s amazing. The bristles on the brush are plastic, but they are close together which helps to grab and coat the lashes while also separating them. This mascara gives me great length. I’m so happy that Boxycharm is adding higher-end brands like Tarte into the boxes. They are a cruelty-free brand and have amazing products. So happy about getting this mascara!
This next product is the Pretty Vulgar My Lips are Sealed Lightweight Liquid Lipstick in Particularly Sophisticated ($24). I’m not too sure how I feel about this product. It is a metallic lipstick that is a bright pink shade. Pretty Vulgar is a new brand to Sephora so I think it’s cool that it was featured in the box but I wish it was another product from them. To be honest, I really wanted to Makeup Geek lip gloss instead of this product. I just know I will never wear this out. The packaging is the only thing that I remotely like. I tried it on yesterday and it’s very glittery. When I wiped it off, I found little glitters all around my mouth for a couple hours. It also has a strong lemon scent that I am not a fan of. There was another color of this that was sent out in a more bronze color. I wish I had gotten that one out of the two because that bronze color would be interesting to wear during the holidays. I just don’t like this color at all on me.
On a brighter note, this is the Crown Brush Deluxe Blush Brush ($12). I can never complain when I get brushes in makeup subscriptions. You can always use a new brush! I love more dense brushes. I don’t use a lot of product when it comes to blush so using a dense brush helps to make a little bit of product go a long way. The bristles on this brush are extremely soft. I tried to use it with the blush palette that is coming up next and it got a LOT of product. I actually had to redo my makeup because it looked like blush exploded on my face. I will probably use this brush to blend out foundation because of how compact the bristles are. That usually means the foundation will be more full coverage. The only thing that gets me is that my elf stipple brush is around $5 and it works perfectly for me. So, I like the brush, just not for applying blush.
The first palette in the box this month is the RealHer Blush Kit ($32). I was very excited when I first saw this product. I’m always up for a peach/coral or bronze-y blush. The pink blush tot the far left is one that I will never wear. I just don’t like any sort of pink on me. That’s also the blush with the most shimmers in this palette. I tried out the blush yesterday and was not too happy. Usually baked products aren’t too pigmented on the top layer but these are. It also didn’t blend out very well so I ended up having to start all over on my makeup. I think we all know how frustrating that is. I never thought I would say this but I think this palette is too pigmented for me. I’ve also heard others say that their palette wasn’t pigmented at all. I definitely feel like there were some inconsistencies with the making of this palette.
The last product in the box this month was quite a surprise to me. This is the Beauté Basics Bronze Essentials Palette ($39.95). I didn’t think I was going to like this palette mainly because I typically like my products being in separate packaging. It’s kind of difficult to get brushes to fit into the individual products in a pan like this. In the swatch picture, the first shade to the left is all of the products mixed together, and then the blush, highlighter, and bronzer are individually swatched beside it. I think what amazed me the most is how soft these powders feel. They almost feel like clay. I tried out the bronzer yesterday and I really like it. I had to squish my brush to make sure I didn’t get any highlighter but that’s not too big of a deal to me. The shade matched me really well and blended out great on top of foundation and powder. I used the blush in this palette after I re-did my makeup because this nude blush is more of my shade anyway. The highlighter is a little too dark for me but I can still use it as an eyeshadow. I’m really happy I got this in the box!
Total Box Rating: 7.8/10
I’m still pretty happy with the December box. I got a great mascara, brush, and face palette. I’m sure the lipstick and blush palette worked great for others, they just didn’t work for me. Some possibilities for the January Box are the Dr. Brandt Pores No More Luminizer Primer, the Crown Glam Metals Eyeshadow Palette, and some sort of face palette.
